01 The short answer

What is abdominal liposuction?

Abdominal liposuction is a minimally invasive surgery that removes stubborn fat from the upper and lower abdomen through small incisions, for a flatter stomach and a better-defined waistline.

At De:light in Gangnam, Seoul, it is performed under local anesthesia or light sedation by Dr. Seonghun Kim, who also closes each incision with the De:MIS internal suture . Most patients return to daily routine within a few days; the final shape settles over two to three months. It is not a weight-loss method and it does not tighten separated abdominal muscles or remove large amounts of loose skin.

02 Is it right for you?

An honest answer first — even if it's "no."

We would rather tell you abdominal liposuction isn't the right tool than sell you a surgery you don't need.

Usually a good fit

  • Belly fat that stays despite diet and exercise
  • Close to your ideal body weight
  • Reasonably good skin elasticity
  • You want a flatter, natural-looking midsection

Other options may suit you

  • Mainly loose, hanging skin after big weight loss — a tummy tuck may suit you better
  • Separated abdominal muscles (diastasis) as the main concern
  • Significant weight loss still planned
  • Expecting lipo to replace weight management

Not sure? Send photos of your abdomen (front and side) on WhatsApp — Dr. Kim's team will tell you honestly what's realistic.

03 How we sculpt the abdomen

Not just flatter. Balanced.

Upper and lower belly fat behave differently, and over-suction near the navel shows quickly as dents. Dr. Kim chooses the technique for your tissue, aiming for an even, natural contour from ribs to hips.

i.

Tumescent technique

Fluid is infused before suction to reduce bleeding, swelling and downtime.

ii.

VASER (ultrasound)

Ultrasound energy gently loosens fat before removal for smoother results.

iii.

Laser-assisted

Helps soften fat and may support skin tightening in selected cases.

iv.

Micro-cannula sculpting

Fine cannulas for detailed shaping around the navel and waist transition.

Not every patient needs every technology — the combination is decided in consultation. VASER · 360° liposuction

09 Questions, answered

Abdominal Liposuction FAQ

How much does abdominal liposuction cost in Gangnam, Seoul?

The price depends on how much fat is removed, whether the upper and lower abdomen, waist or flanks are included, and the technique used. Send your photos on WhatsApp for a personal quote after an online consultation; the final plan is confirmed with Dr. Kim in person.

Are the results of abdominal liposuction permanent?

Yes. Fat cells removed by liposuction do not grow back. Remaining fat cells can still enlarge with weight gain, so keeping a stable weight helps preserve your new contour.

Will I have visible scars on my stomach?

Incisions are very small and placed discreetly. Dr. Kim closes them with De:MIS, our internal suture technique, which needs no stitch removal and is designed to minimise visible marks. Healing varies by skin type.

How long is the recovery after abdominal liposuction?

Most patients return to light daily activities within a few days. Swelling and bruising usually settle within 1–2 weeks, and the final shape appears at around 2–3 months. A compression garment is recommended during early healing.

Is abdominal liposuction the same as a tummy tuck?

No. Liposuction removes fat through small incisions; a tummy tuck removes loose skin and can repair separated muscles through a longer incision. If loose skin or muscle separation is your main concern, Dr. Kim will tell you honestly that liposuction alone may not be enough.

Can I combine abdominal liposuction with other areas?

Yes. The abdomen is often combined with the waist, flanks (love handles) or back for a 360° result, or with fat transfer to the hips. Combinations are planned only when they are safe for you.

Can I have abdominal liposuction after pregnancy?

Many patients do, once they have finished breastfeeding and their weight has been stable for several months. Dr. Kim reviews your skin and muscle condition first.

I'm visiting from abroad. How many days should I stay in Seoul?

It depends on your plan and recovery. Share your travel dates on WhatsApp and our team will suggest a schedule covering consultation, surgery and a check-up before your flight. De:MIS needs no stitch removal, so there is no stitch-removal visit to plan around.

Do you speak English? Who will perform my surgery?

Yes — English-speaking staff handle inquiries, online consultation, scheduling and recovery guidance. Your surgery is performed personally by Dr. Seonghun Kim, the same surgeon who consults you.
