01 The short answer

What is water-assisted liposuction?

Water-assisted liposuction (WAL) uses a fan-shaped jet of tumescent fluid to loosen fat cells from the surrounding tissue while they are suctioned out at the same time.

Because fat is released by fluid rather than heat or strong mechanical force, WAL is considered gentle on nerves, vessels and connective tissue , which may mean less bruising and swelling. The fat collected is also well preserved, so WAL pairs naturally with fat transfer to the hips, breasts or face. At De:light in Gangnam, Seoul, Dr. Seonghun Kim selects WAL when it suits the area and goal, and closes incisions with the De:MIS internal suture .

02 Is it right for you?

An honest answer first — even if it's "no."

We would rather tell you water-assisted liposuction isn't the right tool than sell you a surgery you don't need.

Usually a good fit

  • Stubborn fat that resists diet and exercise
  • Close to your ideal body weight
  • Reasonably good skin elasticity
  • Realistic expectations about contouring

Other options may suit you

  • You are looking for a weight-loss method
  • Mainly loose skin after large weight loss
  • Significant weight change still planned
  • Fat mostly inside the abdomen (visceral)

Not sure? Send photos on WhatsApp — Dr. Kim's team will tell you honestly which technique and areas suit you.

03 How WAL works

Released by water. Not by force.

Infusion and suction happen together, so the area stays well-defined and the procedure is gentle on surrounding tissue.

i.

Pulsed fluid infusion

A fine fan-shaped jet of numbing fluid loosens fat gently.

ii.

Simultaneous suction

Loosened fat is removed while the fluid is applied.

iii.

Tissue-sparing

No heat, less trauma to nerves and vessels.

iv.

Fat-transfer ready

Harvested fat stays in good condition for grafting.

09 Questions, answered

Water-Assisted Liposuction FAQ

How is water-assisted liposuction different from tumescent liposuction?

Tumescent liposuction infuses fluid first and then removes fat. WAL applies a pulsed fluid jet and suction at the same time to release fat more gently.

Is water-assisted liposuction good for fat transfer?

Yes. Because fat is released gently, it stays in good condition for grafting to the hips, breasts or face.

Does WAL cause less bruising?

Many patients experience less bruising and swelling, though it varies by person and area.

Which areas can be treated?

Abdomen, flanks, thighs, arms, back and more.

How much does water-assisted liposuction cost?

It depends on the areas treated and whether fat transfer is included. Send photos on WhatsApp for a personal quote.

I'm visiting from abroad. How many days should I stay in Seoul?

It depends on your plan and recovery. Share your travel dates on WhatsApp and our team will suggest a schedule covering consultation, surgery and a check-up before your flight. De:MIS needs no stitch removal, so there is no stitch-removal visit to plan around.

Do you speak English? Who will perform my surgery?

Yes — English-speaking staff handle inquiries, online consultation, scheduling and recovery guidance. Your surgery is performed personally by Dr. Seonghun Kim, the same surgeon who consults you. There is no change of surgeon.
